How to Make Money with Technology
You want to make money, right? Of course you do. Everyone wants – and needs -to make money. So you started a blog since you’ve heard it’s an easy way to make cash, but you’re not quite sure how to actually make money doing it. Or maybe you already have a blog and you’re exploring ways to monetize it.
No matter which group you’re in, making money with a blog – whether it’s a hobby blog or a business blog –is possible. It’s not a get rich quick ordeal, but if you do it right, you could make enough to support your family and more. Let’s dive in and see how you can make a profit with your blog.
Monetize with CPC or CPM Ads
One of the most common ways bloggers make money is through placing ads on their site. There are two popular types of ads:
- CPC/PPC Ads: Cost per click (also called pay per click) ads are usually banners that you place in your content or sidebar. Each time a reader clicks on the ad, you are paid for that click.
- CPM Ads: CPM Ads, or “cost per 1,000 impressions,” are ads that pay you a fixed amount of money based on how many people view your ad.
Perhaps the most popular network for placing these types of ads is Google AdSense. With this program, you do not need to be in direct contact with advertisers; you simply place the banner on your site, Google chooses ads relevant to your content, and your viewers click on the ads. There are countless similar programs available if you find that AdSense doesn’t work for you, such as Chitika, Infolinks, and Media.net.
Sell Private Ads
Working with advertising networks isn’t your only option when it comes to selling ads. If you end up with enough traffic, advertisers may come directly to you and ask you to place their ad on your site. You can also contact advertisers yourself. The biggest difference from the above mentioned option is that there is no middle man, which means you can set your own ad rates.
Selling private ads can come in the form of banners, buttons, or links. You can even make money writing sponsored posts where you write about or give a review of an advertiser’s product or service. Another option is to write an underwritten post or series, which is where you can write about any topic, but the advertiser pays for a “Brought to you by” mention in the content.
The ways you make money with this can vary. For instance, you might charge a one-time fee for a link within a post. If you are hosting banner ads, you might charge your partner monthly.
Bonus tip: To maximize your income, you can also choose to sell sponsorship space in your email newsletters (here are 5 best email marketing software), podcasts, and videos.
Include Affiliate Links in Your Content
Affiliate marketing is also another great tool for monetizing your blog. Here is how affiliate marketing works:
- An advertiser has a product she wants to sell. She agrees to give you a commission from each sale if the buyer is coming from your site.
- She gives you a unique link that tracks your affiliate code. That way, she knows when a buyer used your link to make a purchase.
- You include your affiliate link on your site. You can do this directly in the content or through banner ads. If a reader clicks on your unique link and buys the product you have recommended, you earn a percentage of what she purchased.
You can utilize affiliate marketing through ad networks like Amazon Associates, or you can create private partnerships with advertisers and businesses with an affiliate program.
Sell Digital Products
If you would rather not advertise other people’s products on your site, or if you are looking for another stream of income, consider selling digital products. This can include items like:
- Online courses/workshops
- Images, video, or music people can use in their own content
- Apps, plugins, or themes
Just remember that if you are going to choose one of these avenues that you make it relevant and useful to your readers. A lot of bloggers make the mistake of assumingthey are developing a product their readers need; listen to your readers first, and then create a digital product that will meet their needs.
Use it as a Content Marketing Tool for Your Business
It is also possible to sell physical products on your blog and to make money that way. Instead of thinking of it as making money from your blog, however, think of your blog as a content marketing tool that will drive visitors to your business website.
The possibilities are practically endless when it comes to developing a business blog. You could sell hand-made products, books, manufactured products, and so much more. Or you might already have a business and decide to start a blog to convert loyal customers.
Lets say, for example, that you refurbish and resell used smartphones out of your home. You could use a blog to attract visitors to your website where you list your current phones for sale. Your blog might cover topics about DIY refurbishing. On one level, it seems counterintuitive because you want people to buy your phones, but it also helps you build a brand and gain recognition. Social media guru Jay Baer explains the concept on Copyblogger:
I was at a conference a few years ago, and this is where I first sort of started thinking about this concept, and their founder, Robert Johnson, was speaking…
He said, “Well our best customers are the people that think they can fix it themselves.”
But eventually you are going to get out of your depth either on that project on a project down the road, at which point who are you going to call? Are you going to call somebody randomly that you discovered on Google or are you going to call the guys who you just watched their logo in the corner of a 14-minute instructional video?
This concept can also be applied to services in all types of industries. For instance, if you offered electronic repair services as opposed to physical products, you could still use the same blogging concept to increase brand awareness and convert more clients.
Another option to make money is to sell memberships to exclusive corners of your website. For instance, a career blog might charge $10 per month for users to gain access to their job board. A startup business blog might sell memberships to their forums where people can get personalized advice about their business.
The key here is that your exclusive membership has to be more valuable than something your visitors can find for free somewhere else, so be sure you’re developing something of value and worth the price.
Use it to Build Your Credibility
Blogging to build credibility can lead to many money-making opportunities. For instance, let us say you start a blog in the finance industry. People start reading your content, and your blog becomes very popular. You are now a recognized figure in the finance industry.
Once you have that authority, people might approach you to co-author a book on debt management, or you could charge to speak at conferences or to run employee financial training days.
This certainly isn’t a direct form of making money blogging, but it has worked for many well-known bloggers, and it can work for you, too. If you’re looking for a direct revenue stream, popular blogs have sold for 4-7 figures (sometimes more) by selling their branding and content.
The biggest thing to keep in mind is that making money blogging is not possible by putting your site up and letting it sit there. The “if you build it, they will come” mentality doesn’t work here, so be sure you’re willing to put in the time. Most bloggers don’t see a spike of income for several months (sometimes years) after starting their blog. Before you dive too deep into blogging, remember these little bits of advice:
Create Quality Content
You are not going to make any money from your blog if people don’t read it. After all, your readers are the ones who are going to make you money, whether they’re clicking on your ads or buying your products. Always put your readers first.
Don’t Spend Your Time Exclusively on Your Blog
Developing a successful blog has a lot to do with building relationships. That can include relationships with sponsors, affiliate partners, or simply other bloggers who will direct traffic to your blog. Be sure some of your time is spent on forums and other blogs (or whatever works for you) to build these relationships and your blog.
Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment
Not all of these tips and avenues of income are going to work for you. Don’t be afraid to tweak your methods to see what works best for you and your readers.
Making money blogging can take a lot of persistence, but it can pay off in the long-run if you’re starting out from scratch. Just remember that you don’t have to use all of these money-making avenues at once. Consider what other people in your industry are doing, and start from there.
Over time, you will learn what works for you and what doesn’t. If you’re looking to make money from your blog, which option will you start with?
Let me know in the comment section :).
The best way to make money online is to follow the people who actually are doing it , unfortunately in the online world Google slaps a Google penalty if you literally do that by copying successful bloggers (Some floggers)and even if you really want to follow the successful money makers , they never really reveal the actual inner money making secrets.

Technology blogs are at a popular place when it comes to blog niches. In fact, if you are a blogger in this particular area of ability you are in a place to use it to make a terrific source of income with the right tools.
Having the knowledge and know how to make technology blogs work in your favor to increase income is a matter of getting the right information to your readers and audience when possible. Following these simple techniques can make that happen for you.
SEO is still in play when crafting posts. There are tons of changes taking place in search engine optimization. We are still dependent on many aspects of it when it comes to the algorithms search engines use. Search engines are bringing the targeted traffic you need to your blog.
Play the game with care, but do not leave it out of the equation completely when fashioning content. Enrich a readers experience with tons of relevant quality material and subject matter, while you apply your seo so traffic will find you.
One of the best ways to use seo is having a web page that is easy for readers to navigate. Put the work in to help your audience have a better experience and you will grow traffic naturally. Tons of valuable information is the key with a little sprinkle of seo here and there.
Diversify your income by building more than one source. This not only gives the visitor a choice, but it creates a foundation for you to have multiple streams of revenue.
These types of blogs are high traffic naturally. Using PPC for advertising sources makes earnings increases substantially faster. Use sources like Chitika and AdSense. Optimize where you are placing ads to gain the most out of these wells of revenue.
Many bloggers have also discovered they can sell merchandise along with their PPC ads. For instance, digital merchandise, Amazon or eBay are wonderful for affiliate income. Lots of visitors are looking to buy when they visit technology blogs.
Use product reviews
Product reviews are one of the biggest search engine queries bringing targeted traffic to the technology blog arena. Using these to your benefit is helpful.
Product reviews are simple to build and as your knowledge and efficiency increase they will become second nature and effortless to build.
Hands on experience are not necessary for reviews of products and you are able to have a personal opinion comment included for any of them. Readers reviewing products are in the buying mood. Give them what they want, something to buy.
Stay current on trends
Make certain you keep your skills up to stay current with technology trends. Follow what is happening in the niche and understand what subjects are news worthy and of significance to a visitor. This will allow you to give them what they want and need making your blog effective.
A number of bloggers like to set up Google Alerts to keep them active in grasping what is relevant in the industry.
Big technology sites
Relying on the big technology sites for help is okay to some extent. This means keeping in touch with what they have going on, but use them as a resource only. Try and bring something fresh to your posts. Gain ideas and concepts, but use your own twist to fashion content for your space.
They are useful for finding the latest products to promote as well. Avoid simply rewriting what they offer.
Technology blogs are profitable with the right strategy and plan of action. Making it work for you means creating a rich resource full of content that helps your reader. It takes time to build a remarkable technology blog. Though, with the right material and know how it is certainly possible to find financial success.

How to Start a Blog that will mint money for you:
To be honest, for blogging the most important skill you need to have is to be eager to learn new stuff. Writing or speaking (for video bloggers) is another crucial aspect of blogging.
Though there are some technical requirements but if you know how to express yourself with writing, which adds value to the people, you can become a blogger.
Even if you don’t have these skills now, you can always learn these skills with practice.
There might be an initial investment, but it will be worth it for making a great future with the help of blogging.
Let’s move ahead & look at how you can start a blog that earns money.
Niche/Topic of your blog:
The very first thing you need to do is find the niche of your blog. By niche, I mean finding a topic that your blog is going to be about.
I hope you were not thinking that I would blog about everything & make money. This doesn’t work in 2016 and your chances of success are better when you blog on a single topic.
You might be a jack of all trades, and want to start a blog on multiple topics, but it will not be fruitful, as people like to subscribe to a blog, which is an authority on a particular topic.
Even from search engine point of view, a blog/website dedicated on a single topic ranks higher. Now, the question is how can you find the topic of your blog? Here are few tips that will help you to get started:
- Find a topic that you know better than anyone else. It doesn’t have to be the job you are doing, and it could be anything. Try to think about the topic that you mostly like to talk about, and you can comfortably talk about it for hours.
- A good idea is to pick a topic that you usually read about. The topic which you read about all the time is something that interests you.
- Also, make sure you have a keen interest in a particular topic, and you can add values with your own insight.
- For newbies, I always recommend to take help of pen-paper and write down the topics in different columns that you like. For ex: Photography, Scientific research, Baby care, health care and so on. Now, try to write 20 post ideas for those different columns. When you are writing the post title, think about what you can write without taking reference. By the end of the 20th article, it will help you to find the topic (Niche) that you like the most.
This is one important step before starting a blog, as it will help you to pick a topic that you are most passionate about. This will ensure that you will not burn out when your blog goes live. Most of the new blog dies in a short span because of lack of passion and continuation.
If you are picking a topic that you like to talk about and write about, it will ensure that your burn out period will never come. So, I assume you have selected the niche for your blog which can make some money for you.
Blogging platform: (Pick the best environment for your blog)
There are many blogging platforms out there, and people have different opinions about each of them. Most of the Bloggers start blogging on a self-hosted WordPress platform.
For any new blogger with no money in the pocket, it’s wise to start blogging on BlogSpot platform for the first month to learn basics of blogging. Once your basics are cleared, you are ready to start blogging on the most popular blogging platform in the world.
WordPress is popular because it’s easy to use & this is why 25% of the websites in the world is powered by WordPress.
Once you have crossed the testing period, you are ready to do something more meaningful. Get a WordPress blog, and don’t confuse yourself with WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress blog.
A self hosted WordPress blog (WordPress.org) is what you need. It means you will be installing WordPress on your own hosting and getting a domain. This process is easy & in the further section, you will also learn to setup your blog.
I’m not getting in detail about pros and cons of different blogging platform, but if you are still interested to know about it, here are few articles to clear your basic doubts.
Name of your blog is the most crucial part for success. A domain name is the URL of a blog which a visitor will use to open a blog. For example; www.ShoutMeLoud.com
When you start a blog on BlogSpot or WordPress.com platform, you get an address like name.blogspot.com and name.WordPress.com.
A custom domain name is like www.ShoutMeLoud.com, for which we need to pay around $11. If you are following this guide for making money you should start a blog on BlogSpot without any custom domain.
Now, there are few rules which will help you to pick the best name for your new blog. Here are some of the tips from my experience:
- Use only .com domain extension. Use .in or country based domain extension when you are targeting traffic from a particular country.
- Your domain name should be easy to pronounce and easy to type.
- Make sure your domain name should not confuse the listener.
I usually follow two rules when selecting a domain name for myself and for my clients. Here are two rules which I follow:
For long term venture:
If you are planning to create a blog for a long term, a good idea is to go for a branded domain name, which doesn’t have any meaning, but it’s easy to recall and easy to type. For ex: ShoutMeLoud, Labnol and so on.
For SEO advantage:
Now, if you are planning to create a blog whose sole purpose is to make money and you are unsure about long-term goals, you can pick a keyword rich domain name. a good idea is to have your main topic (Keyword) as a first name followed by a suffix like Guide, resource and so on. Ex: Cydiaguide, Techguides and so on.
You can use Godaddy domain name search feature to get suggestions for your domain name. My suggestion is to use your creativity and pick a name which makes more sense, and easy to brand. Here are few things you should not do when selecting the domain name for your new blog:
- Don’t use your personal name as a blog name. It will not look professional when your blog will grow, and when you target audience shift from local to global.
- Don’t use too long domain name. Try to keep it lower than 12 characters. Ex: ShoutMeLoud
- Don’t use domain extension like .info, .net and so on, because they tend to rank bad in Search engines. I always prefer and suggest to use a domain name extension like .com or .org.

- How to find best domain name for your Website
- How to write blog business plan in 9 easy steps
Now, I assume you have crossed the infant stage of blogging on a free blogging platform like BlogSpot or WordPress.com, and you should move to a self-hosted platform.
By self-hosted platform, I mean to install your blog on your own server. This way you will have more control on your blog, and you are responsible for all your actions.
I have already shared a complete guide on web-hosting for beginners, which will help you to learn the basics of hosting servers. Just to make things simpler:
Bluehost offers free domain along with hosting, and it will cost around $4.95/month which is a decent amount for a quality web-hosting.
You should also spend next 35 minutes watching these WordPress video tutorials to train you. It will be little time-consuming, but if you are serious about making money from blogging, you have to spend dedicated time to understand and learn the basics.
Set up your blog:
To start setting up your blog for branding and make it perfect, I have shared some guides which you can refer to get started:
- Learn how to set up WordPress blog for the first time.
- Places to submit your blog for the first timer.
- Must have subscription option for your blog.
- Set up domain Email address on Bluehost server.
Plan your content:
Before you start writing your first blog post, you should make a content strategy. For example, if you are picking a niche like “WordPress”, think of most basic questions a user will have, and you can create a content title based on that. I will be talking about Keyword research and other stuff later in this article, but for now, let’s concentrate on content planning from a user point of view. So, let’s assume your niche topic is “WordPress blog” and here are basic questions a newbie user will have:
- What is WordPress
- Why WordPress is better blogging platform
- Difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org blog
- How to create a WordPress blog.
- Must have plugins for your WordPress blogs and so on…..
A good idea is to create a spread sheet and note down all your idea.
If you are little technical, you can take advantage of mind mapping tools to have a visual appearance of your ideas. Above titles are an example, and you should note down ideas based on the topic of your interest. Content planning will help you to stay focused with time, and you know what you have to write next. Planning is most crucial part of creating a perfect blog.
Design of your blog:
Blog design is most important aspect of your blog because a good design will ensure that your visitors will love your blog. For WordPress, there are many free and Premium WordPress themes out there. I always recommend to go for a premium theme because you will get all the support and starter guide, and more over, you will have a quality design for your blog. Here are three premium theme clubs which I would recommend you to start with.
- Genesis : This is the costliest option, but certainly one of the best theme framework out there. You should opt for pro-package, which will let you access all their skins and future updates for free.
- Theme-junkie: This theme is perfect for people who want to design their theme themselves. There are many good themes out there, and with easy to control design panel, you can customize your WordPress theme without any issue.
There are many more premium WordPress theme clubs out there, but I recommend any of the above two for a professional start.
There are thousands of WordPress plugins out there. Here I will mention few of those plugins which are must have for any new WordPress blog. If you have never installed a plugin before, here is my guide on installing WordPress plugin. Here are plugins which you should have on your newly created WordPress blog:
